For most people, there’s always something to be done in the home. However, if you’re someone who often puts things off until the last minute, chances are that you feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of tasks you can expect to take on in the future. Fortunately, with the right planning and elbow grease, everything can get done. If you know that things need to get done around the house, here are four tips for organizing your in-home to-do list.

1. Always put the most difficult tasks at the top of your to-do list.

Some people view productivity through the lens of getting the most done. However, when you approach your to-do list this way, you can end up spending too much energy on tasks that are non-essential, finding yourself too fatigued to tackle the bigger projects as you work through your to-do list. This is why it’s always a great idea to start tackling some of the most difficult tasks first, even if they’re not necessarily the ones that you’re most energized to clear.

For example, let’s imagine that you want to tackle some bathroom renovations to tear out your bathtub and install a new shower. Taking the time to look for contractors that can handle your San Antonia walk-in shower renovations by conducting a Google search for shower installation professionals in Texas is a great place to start. Then, once you have your free quote and an idea of what your chosen company can do (adding shelves, grab bars, etc.), you can begin scheduling this work and crossing this item off of your homeowner’s to-do list. The sooner you get these big projects done, the less you will have to take worry about overtime.

2. End the day with some simple tasks.

Big projects are your top priority, but these shouldn’t make up your entire to-do list. Whether it’s tearing out your tub, installing new light fixtures, or repainting your living room, don’t end your day with these tasks. Instead, put simple tasks like finding the perfect photo printing service to get collage prints, your favorite photos printed on canvas, or even acrylic prints. This way, you can end your day satisfied that you took care of a simple task, wrapped up your to-do list for the day, and, hopefully, go some excellent canvas prints at a great value.

3. Don’t overload yourself with tasks, especially ones that won’t get done immediately.

The problem for many homeowners is finding time to get everything done. When you have a lengthy to-do list, it can be very detrimental to your motivation, causing you to procrastinate and get nothing done instead. When you start working on your in-home to-do list, ask yourself, how much can I handle? What can I realistically get done, and what can I put on another to-do list for tasks that will need to be finished later? The more realistic your to-do list is when it comes to your capabilities, the more you will get done and the more productive you will feel.

4. Separate your bigger in-home tasks into milestones so you can work towards them.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your renovations won’t be done in that time either. To make sure that you’re making progress towards your larger goals, break down larger goals into milestones. For example, if you plan on taking on a whole renovation for your kitchen, you could separate your renovation into flooring, walls, appliances, cabinets, and other sections that need to be tackled separately. This way, you can see how much you’re getting done without leaving the whole task on your to-do list for months and months at a time without any measurable progress.

Creating the perfect to-do list for your in-home tasks can seem like a difficult feat. However, with the right guidance, it becomes quite simple. If you’re having trouble making a to-do list for the tasks that need to get done in your home, use the four tips offered above to start making some progress towards your projects!
